WACO, Texas - Today, Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12 held its Ninth Annual School Counselor Appreciation Luncheon and named the 2022 ESC Region 12 Counselors of the Year. This year, Co-Elementary Counselors of the Year are Amanda Brown of Fairview/Miss Jewel Elementary in Copperas Cove ISD and Brandi Stearman of Carroll Elementary in Corsicana ISD.

The 2022 ESC Region 12 Secondary Counselor of the Year is Susan Tober at Hamilton Junior High in Hamilton ISD. There was also a special category this year to recognize a school counselor who serves an entire district, K-12. This year’s 2022 ESC Region 12 “Lone Ranger” School Counselor of the Year is Krystal Duke in Wortham ISD.

This event, which started in Region 12 has now grown across the state as other regions honor school counselors in much the same way.
"Never before has there been such a need for showing appreciation for these silent heroes in our schools. School counselors wear so many hats and are responsible for many things to ensure academic progress and safety in our schools,” ESC Region 12 Specialist Jeni Janek shares. “This is a small way that we can show them what they mean to us and let them know that their work matters and is so very important!"
National Counselor Appreciation week is February 7-11, 2022. ESC Region 12 also recognized retiring counselors, members of the Regional, Crisis Response Team, ESC Region 12 New Counselor Academy members, and Elite School Counselors in the Region 12 service area.
