WACO, Texas – The Education Service Center Region 12 Technology Foundation awarded nine school districts with nearly $70,000 in grant funds to support educational technology programs. The new technology projects chosen came from a pool of nearly 50 applications.
Aquilla Elementary received nearly $4,800 to increase reading fluency in elementary classrooms through integrated technology.
Belton ISD received $3,248 to integrate portable, digital 3D microscopes into the classrooms of the Sparta campus that will allow students to experience nature close up and foster a love of science and technology.
Fairfield ISD received $9,999 for their project that will incorporate a shared Google Expedition Virtual Reality Kit to allow students in grades 3-8 to gain knowledge, real world experiences and make connections in all subjects through virtual reality activities.
Hillsboro ISD’s elementary campus received $9,800 for their project that plans to increase mathematics and critical thinking skills through computer coding and programming apps and tools.
Holland ISD’s middle school campus received $9,532 for their project that plans to close achievement gaps, increase attendance, create future-ready students and educate parents through the creation and use of a digital library.
McGregor ISD received nearly $10,000 to install MakerSpace technology on all campuses to engage students with Design, Engineering and Coding (DEC).
Moody ISD received $8,939 to promote student-centered learning through interactive library lessons on their elementary school campus.
Waco ISD’s ATLAS Academy received nearly $4,900 for their project that plans to incorporate drone technology into the classroom to promote STEM education.
Whitney ISD’s intermediate campus received $7,448 to create engineering/agricultural and artistic maker spaces that will allow students to create and explore ideas through research, invention and design activities.
“The kids just take to all this technology so fast, and I think they’re just gonna love it,” Christine Robinson, the Hillsboro campus librarian said. “I’m so thankful to have gotten this grant. I’m really excited to see what it’s gonna do on our campus with our kids’ math skills.”
Since its creation in 2012, the ESC Region 12 Technology Foundation has awarded nearly $280,000 to 31 school districts and two charter schools in Central Texas.
