LEx Labs
Learning Experience Laboratories or LEx Labs, located at the Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative (BRIC) were created through a partnership between Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12, Baylor University and Huckabee, a planning and design firm that is exclusively focused on educational facilities.
The nearly-6,000-square-foot educational research facility represents the next generation of innovative classrooms and laboratories. The partnership will allow teachers and students to "test-drive" the Huckabee-designed learning spaces developed in the BRIC. During this time, Baylor researchers will observe both teachers and students, compiling data to evaluate the effectiveness of each new concept. Based on data collected, Huckabee will provide new or improved designs, with the most successful design elements eventually being deployed in school districts throughout the state.

Join the fun as we investigate and gather data to make sense of our world. During each 5-day camp, teams of learners will collaborate in the selection a topic of study, development of a testable question, collection and interpretation of relevant data, and produce results /conclusions for presentation to the community. Learners will also able to interact with university and industry scientists/engineers as well as community members to experience the "jobs" related to STEM.

    • Camp Details:

      Microgravity (Camp 1) - July 16 – 20

Is there gravity in outer space? What does microgravity feel like? Do objects behave differently in microgravity? Join the fun as we investigate the effects of a microgravity environment on everyday objects and activities.

Day 1: Investigate the meaning of microgravity (micro-g)

Day 2: Exploring behavior in micro-g environments

Day 3: Designing experiments for micro-g environments

Day 4: Team mission at the TSTC Challenger Learning Center

Day 5: Mini-drop packages and team presentations

      Aquatic Science (Camp 2) – July 23-27

What is a freshwater ecosystem? Is there really a difference among biota of lakes, rivers, and reservoirs? How does human activity impact freshwater ecosystems? Join the fun as we investigate the nature of freshwater ecosystems.

Day 1: Investigating the various freshwater ecosystems

Day 2: Exploring the Habitat-Organism Relationship

Day 3: Basics of Ecosystem Biology and Experimental Design

Day 4: Fieldwork (Waco Wetlands or Lake Waco)/ How Do I Fit In?

Day 5: Data Management and Team Presentations

      Microgravity (Camp 3) REPEAT - July 30- August 3
