High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM)

Bluebonnet Learning K-3 Foundational Skills instructional materials use research-based strategies to deliver clear, literacy instruction for students to develop and grow their literacy skills.

The lessons are sequenced to progress from simple to more advanced skills, offering students opportunities to practice foundational skills independently or through decodable texts. Students will develop a love for reading and strengthen their handwriting and cursive writing skills.

In grades K-2, the skills and knowledge units are taught in two distinct time blocks from lessons built for that purpose. 

In grade 3, the product is offered as knowledge and skills unified, or K-3 skills alone. 

In grades 4 and 5, there are knowledge units built to reinforce RLA skills that have already been established in K-3 skills units consistent with the science of reading.

Bluebonnet Learning K-5 RLA instructional units build upon prior instruction through a knowledge-based approach that connects topics across grades. The units incorporate cross-curricular content in science and history, while including great works of literature consistent with a classical educational model focused on the fundamentals.

Students engage with the reading materials to create written responses grounded in text evidence, while developing critical thinking and research skills.

These materials are designed to prepare students for grade-level success, which can be demonstrated on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR).

The materials are tailored for Texas students, with content featuring strong representation from the diverse people, places, and history of Texans to highlight the unique framework of the Lone Star State.

Bluebonnet Learning K-5 Math materials guide students to be thinkers and doers of mathematics. K-5 Math materials present math as a cohesive story, building concepts lesson-by-lesson to emphasize the creation, flexibility, and relationships of units.

The materials use a four-part lesson structure that develops fluency, incorporates fast-paced practice, encourages perseverance, and fosters conceptual and procedural understanding.

Bluebonnet Learning Secondary Mathematics materials are sequenced to build knowledge across modules and grades, while offering teachers the flexibility to adapt instruction to meet the unique needs of their students.

The materials provide ample opportunities for collaborative and independent learning and equip teachers with the resources needed to engage all students in grade-level tasks that pursue rigor by balancing fluency, conceptual and procedural understanding, and application.
