Valley Mills Elementary Receives Blue Ribbon School Nomination
02/18/2021
WACO, Texas - Valley Mills Elementary is one of 26 Texas public schools nominated for the coveted 2021 National Blue Ribbon School honor. The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program is a U.S. Department of Education program that has been recognizing exemplary high-performing public and private elementary, middle, and high schools for more than 39 years.

In the Lone Star State, public schools are considered for nomination based on student performance on the first administration of the previous year’s STAAR assessments. Each nominated school has an economically disadvantaged population of 25 percent or more.

"We are so proud of Valley Mills Elementary being nominated for a National Blue Ribbon School honor. It is obvious that they have worked diligently to close achievement gaps between student groups and are focused on meeting the academic needs of each child on the campus", said Ellen Hogan, Federal Programs Education Specialist at Education Service Center Region 12.

The national award winners will be announced in September, and schools receiving the award will be recognized at the Blue Ribbon School conference in Washington D.C. The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools that have high student achievement and/or highlights where exemplary progress has been made in closing achievement gaps among student subpopulations. Since the program’s founding, 9,000 schools across the nation have received this prestigious designation.
