High Threat Risk Training for School Personnel Scheduled July 27
07/17/2018

(Waco, Texas)--Although school is out for the summer, school safety remains a top concern for area school leaders and educators. Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12 will provide training to prepare educators on the prevention and intervention of high threat situations and to learn about resources that support Governor Abbott’s School & Firearm Safety Action Plan. This session is a repeat of one offered in March where 140 educators and first responders were in attendance. The Waco Police Department’s SWAT Sergeant D.J. Adams will also visit with the audience about school safety.

“The professionals who serve schools in an educational capacity and in a law enforcement capacity are working hand-in-hand to develop awareness, assess current plans, and pursue action steps for prevention and intervention,” Counselor Specialist Jeni Janek said. “It is in these partnerships and sharing of resources that we can help keep our campuses more safe.”

Janek has participated in several safety discussions and initiatives, both at the local and state level and leads the Region 12 Crisis Response Team, which includes crisis response counselors and serves 12 area counties.

Following the High Threat Risk training, a luncheon will be held for participants and area superintendents at ESC Region 12. State Representative Doc Anderson’s office coordinated the event with State Representative Kyle Kacal and Senator Brian Birdwell’s offices and Education Service Center Region 12. Also expected to attend will be representatives and Executive Directors from the Texas Education Agency (TEA), Texas School Safety Center, and Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Invited guests will have the opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer session with state school safety leaders.
