04/10/2018

WACO, Texas– Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12 and partnering agencies, the Heart of Texas Human Trafficking Coalition, UnBound, and the McLennan County Sheriff's Office, are hosting a training to present the signs and symptoms of Human Trafficking, as well as preventative and intervention best practices to protect children. Practices will pertain to academic, behavioral, physical, emotional and social indicators.

Human Trafficking can occur anywhere, regardless of the community or school size, demographic or any other identifiable factor. An estimated 100,000 children are victims of sex trafficking every year in the U.S. The highest targeted age group of students is between 12- and 16-year-olds.

“We are committed to supporting schools and these groups in their efforts to provide a healthy and safe learning environment for all students. By partnering, we can increase awareness and intervention practices in education to achieve this goal,” said Jeni Janek, Education Specialist at ESC Region 12.
