Admission Requirements

Teacher & kidsAdmission is based on the following:

  • Last 60 Hours GPA or cumulative GPA
  • Content GPA
  • THEA / PPST Scores / TSI
  • Interview
  • Writing Sample

In addition all applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Provide official transcripts from each college or university attended. All foreign transcripts must be translated and evaluated. A list of approved foreign evaluation agencies is available at the SBEC site for Foreign Evaluation Services (off-site).
  • Hold a bachelor's degree or higher from an approved accredited institution (PDF file) of higher education with either a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above on a four-point system or a 2.5 or above grade point average in the last 60 hours of college coursework taken
  • Have the required block of semester hours (see Specialization Areas) for the desired certification with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a four-point system in that required block or pass the Pre-Admission Content Test (PACT) in a desired certification area.
  • Demonstrate basic skills proficiency with one of the following:
    • THEA
    • PPST (out of state applicants)
    • TSI (Texas State Initiative)

  • All applicants must successfully pass a scored interview and writing sample

  • Submit to a criminal history check

Being accepted into the TPCP does not guarantee employment by a school district.
