State law now requires that all first year teachers must be assigned a trained mentor. ESC Region 12 offers training for teachers assigned as mentors that includes the following areas:

• Adult learners
• Stages of teacher growth
• Self-Reliance
• Motivation
• Stress Management
• Interpersonal Skills
• Counseling
• Peer coaching and direct support
• Communications with parents
• School culture
• Cultural diversity

Mentors will be able to provide support needed by first-year teachers in order to facilitate teacher growth and retention.
