Skilled substitute teachers are in
demand in Central Texas and school districts are
finding it increasingly difficult to hire and retain
significant numbers of qualified substitute teachers.
Several successful substitute training workshops
were held last summer, which trained 160 people.
The Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12 is again
offering Substitute Teacher Training workshops at
locations throughout Central Texas.
As a registered provider of Continuing
Professional Education (CPE) programs for administrators,
educators, paraprofessionals, and parents, ESC Region
12 is uniquely qualified to provide potential and
current substitutes the training to be successful
in a classroom environment.
During the one-day training, instruction
will include first-aid and safety, conflict resolution,
teaching strategies, following lesson plans and classroom
management techniques. Participants will also learn
how to confidently instruct and address situations
they may face in the classroom. Although the training
does not guarantee a substitute position with any
school district, it is a time-convenient and affordable
way for participants in Central Texas to begin or
improve their substitute teaching skills.
The substitute training workshop is
open to anyone interested in becoming a substitute
teacher, current substitute teachers, and substitute
teachers returning to the field after an absence.
All participants must have a high school degree.
Participants
will receive an ESC Region 12 certificate upon completion
of the training.
The training also serves as a trainer-of-trainer
workshop for a district wanting to implement their
own substitute training.
