| The shortage of fully licensed speech-language
pathologists continues to be a concern both in Texas
and across the nation. In 1992, the Department of
Communication Sciences and Disorders at TWU, with
financial support from the Texas Education Agency,
introduced a distance
learning master's degree program designed
for students with full-time jobs in the Texas public
school system. This program combines evening video-conference
class sessions in collaboration with the regional
education service centers, Internet-based training,
and on-site clinical experiences. The program is certified
by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
(ASHA).
In order to apply, you must meet the admissions standards
of TWU and be sponsored by a local school district and
a participating Texas Education Service Center.
The program is currently in its 4th cycle with graduation
expected in summer of 2008. Application to the 4th
cycle is closed.
TEA has approved a fifth cycle of the TETN/TWU program.
TWU will offer meetings which will provide in-depth
information about the program and the application process.
All potential applicants must attend one of these meetings:
Participants are asked to bring their college transcript
(unofficial) to the meeting. Individuals must attend
one of these information meetings to be considered
for the program. All candidates are urged to pre-register
in order to receive an information packet. Check this
web page later this spring for registration information
for fall meetings.
