What is the Principal Preparation and Certification Program (PPCP)?
PPCP is a one-year program designed to improve student performance by training and certifying prospective school leaders. Participants will learn about the policies and practices needed for effective and successful school leadership.
How is the ESC Region 12 PPCP different from other programs?
One distinguishing characteristic of this program is that it allows participants to receive face-to-face instruction with local experts, and extensive preparation for the TExES exam for principals. Another key characteristic of this program is that it provides participants the opportunity to receive continued support from the program directors.
What are the major components of the PPCP?
PPCP has two major components: pre-service training and internship. Pre-service training (face-to-face instruction and TExES preparation) is offered in the fall, and the internship is offered in the spring.
During the internship, will participants be paid a salary?
During the internship, participants will not be paid a salary for being in the PPCP program.
What is the application process?
To download an application and reference form, participants may go to http://www.esc12.net/ppcp/default.html. The application form and three copies of the reference form must be completed. All completed forms and copies of undergraduate and Master’s degree transcripts and service records (detailing employment experience) must be submitted to: ESC Region 12, Attn: PPCP P.O. Box 23409, Waco, TX 76702. As part of the application process, participants will need to make an appointment at ESC Region 12 in Waco to complete an interview and provide a writing sample. Note: Participants should allow 1-1.5 hours for these activities.
What is the cost of the program?
There is a non-refundable application fee of $50.00 that a participant will submit along with the application, reference forms, and other documentation. Participants will receive a payment schedule once they are accepted into the program.
Is there a payroll deduction option available?
At this time, payroll deduction is not a payment option.
Will the program require a major time commitment?
The program will require participants to attend ten (10), eight-hour Saturday sessions during the fall. In addition, participants will be responsible for: four written reflections based on four current works by renowned authors, attendance at a School Board of Trustees meeting in a respective district and participation in other activities that will broaden their understanding of the principalship.
Upon certification, will ESC Region 12 place participants with school districts?
Although ESC Region 12 will not place participants with school districts, the ESC will provide participants access to a database of administrative positions in the Region 12 area to assist in searching for administrative positions. In addition, as a result of participating in the PPCP program, participants will experience invaluable networking opportunities.
If a participant is working on a master’s degree and planning to graduate in the fall, can he/she participate in the program?
In order to participate in the program, a participant must hold a valid teaching certificate from an accredited institution and hold a Master’s degree or verify AT LEAST 18 hours toward a Master’s degree from an accredited institution with a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Will participants be able to further their education and acquire a doctoral degree in education if they participate in this program?
By participating in this program, participants may further their education and acquire a doctoral degree, as many of our participants have successfully completed their doctoral degrees. |
