EARN YOUR MASTER'S DEGREE

You have the opportunity to earn your Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) while attending Region 12's Teacher Preparation and Certification Program.  Learn more >

  • Admission is based on the following:
    • Last 60 Hours GPA or cumulative GPA
    • Content GPA
    • THEA / PPST Scores / TSI
    • Interview
    • Writing Sample
    In addition all applicants must meet the following requirements:
    1. Complete a Request for Advising
    2. Provide OFFICIAL transcripts from each college or university attended. All foreign transcripts must be translated and evaluated. A list of approved foreign evaluation agencies is available at the TEA site for Foreign Evaluation Services.
    3. Hold a bachelor's degree or higher from an approved accredited institution of higher education with either a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above on a four-point system or a 2.5 or above grade point average in the last 60 hours of college coursework taken.
    4. Have the required block of semester hours for the desired certification with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a four-point system in that required block or pass the Pre-Admission Content Test (PACT) in a desired certification area.
    5. Demonstrate basic skills proficiency with one of the following:
      • THEA
      • PPST (out of state applicants)
      • TSI (Texas State Initiative)
      • TOEFL (minimum score 26). If English was not the language of instruction, then the TOEFL is required. When registering for the TOEFL, use the code number B247 to request scores be reported directly to ESC Region 12.
    6. All applicants must successfully pass a scored interview and writing sample.

    Being accepted into the TPCP does not guarantee employment by a school district.

OVERVIEW

Our program features flexible scheduling and night classes for candidates who have full time jobs. Typically, candidates will achieve standard certification in approximately 18 months. 

 

Phase 1 - Complete four-month Pre-service training:

  • Attend classes (held Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings, 5:30 - 9:30 p.m.)
  • Complete 40 hours of classroom observation and student interaction
  • Pass a minimum of two required exams: Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) exam and appropriate TExES content exam

 

Phase 2 - Complete internship with one of these two options:

  • Internship - complete two semesters in a paid teacher of record position
  • Clinical Teaching Practicum - complete 14 weeks (70 school days) unpaid in the classroom with a mentor teacher

 

EARN A MASTER’S

Earn a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) from Louisiana College while attending the ESC Region 12 TPCP program. Learn more >  

 

MORE INFORMATION:

  • TPCP Program fee for single certification (includes textbooks): $5,500 (or $4,995 if paid upfront)

    Affordable monthly payment plan is offered. Call for details.

     

    Possible Additional Program Fees:

    • $30 Add on Certification for ESL
    • $500 Add on Certification (Special Education or Bilingual)
    • $750 Employment outside Region 12 during the internship year

    Fees required by the State Board for Educator Certification and paid to outside agencies:

    • $131 - Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) - usually two required during Pre-service
    • $41.25 - Fingerprint Fee - required before receiving Probationary Certificate
    • $52 - Probationary Certificate - required for internship year
    • $78 - Standard Certificate - at completion of program
  • Core Subjects Early Childhood - Grade 6 (EC-6):
    Transcript Requirements - 24 college semester hours in a combination of English, math, natural science, and social studies with at least 3 hours in each of the four areas.

     

     


     

     

    Grades 4-8 Core Subjects:
    Transcript Requirements - 30 college semester hours in a combination of English, math, natural science, and social studies with at least 15 hours in one of the four areas and 9 hours in a second area, and 3 hours in each of the two remaining areas.

    • English Language Arts and Reading
    • Social Studies

    • Business Education (6-12)
