Campus Leadership Services

ESC Region 12 offers a variety of networking and training opportunities for campus leaders including:

4A and 5A High School Collaborative Master Scheduling
3A High School Collaborative Middle School Conference
Smaller High School Collaborative Principal Assessment of Leadership Skills (PALS)
Administrators’ Institute for School Improvement Professional Development and Appraisal System (PDAS)

4A and 5A High School Collaborative:
Provides the opportunity for principals of 4A and 5A high schools to meet in an informal setting and to share ideas with other educators from across the region whose schools share common challenges and similar conditions. It also is a time to discuss current trends, strategies and legal issues facing high school educators today.

3A High School Collaborative:
Provides the opportunity for principals of 3A high schools to meet in an informal setting and to share ideas with other educators from across the region whose schools share common challenges and similar conditions. It also is a time to discuss current trends, strategies and legal issues facing high school educators today.

Smaller High School Collaborative:
Provides the opportunity for principals of smaller (2A and smaller) high schools to meet in an informal setting and to share ideas with other educators from across the region whose schools share common challenges and similar conditions. It also is a time to discuss current trends, strategies and legal issues facing high school educators today.

Administrators’ Institute for School Improvement
“Unleashing Our Leadership Potential”
In its fifth year, the Administrators’ Institute for School Improvement strives to provide information and support to campus administrators. Each of these six half-day sessions offered throughout the year will focus on critical issues facing campus administrators on a daily basis. From creating a high performance learning culture to using data to effect change to leading with the heart, these sessions are designed to meet the needs of principals and assistant principals from across the region.

Campus Planning:
This session provides the most up-to-date information to assist campus teams in constructing a plan that not only meets state and federal requirements, but creates a plan that serves as a daily blueprint for success. Each area of the plan will be discussed in detail including how to write clearly stated actions, what can be done to meet state and federal guidelines, and how everything works together to improve student achievement. In addition to reviewing well-written sample plans, you will learn how the use of technology can make creating your campus plan easier and more efficient.

Instructional Leadership Development (ILD):
Leaders will learn to model, encourage, and create conditions in the school culture that are:

  • Learner Centered
    Views all members of the learning community as life-long, successful learners.
  • Based on High Expectations
    Expects all staff to work to ensure a safe, respectful, inclusive, risk-taking and academically rich environment in which all stakeholders accept accountability for the success of all students.
  • Collaborative
    Views teamwork, collegiality and sense of community as necessary for maximizing the goal of success for all.
  • Based on Continuous Improvement
    Views continuous planning, monitoring, evaluation and assessment of progress as essential to the goal of continuous and ever-improving success for all.

Master Scheduling:
The stakes are high in today’s schools. Providing a quality education for all students is a complex process. The requirements continue to change while the budget remains the same---or shrinks---from year to year. This session will provide some innovative ways to deal with creating a master schedule for your campus that utilizes all your resources to the fullest, while providing the highest quality education for every student. You will find creative ways to handle the most complex scheduling issues and maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of your staff to meet the needs of all students.

Middle School Conference
“Reaching for Our Middle School Stars”

The sixth annual Region 12 Middle School Conference promises to provide a day of inspiration and information for all middle school teachers, staff, and administrators. Dr. Debbie Silver, noted educator and motivational speaker, will deliver the keynote address, recounting her experiences over the years. Her humor and genuine love for students will set the tone for the rest of a day filled with informational sessions presented by educators from across the region.

Principal Assessment of Leadership Skills (PALS):
This one and one half day process fulfills the state mandated assessment requirement. It incorporates activities that allow the participants to demonstrate proficiency with regard to the Principal Standards. It also provides ample time for feedback and reflection under the direction of veteran administrators from around the state.

Professional Development and Appraisal System (PDAS):
PDAS remains in place as the State's approved instrument for appraising its teachers and identifying areas that would benefit from staff development. PDAS includes 51 criteria within eight domains reflecting the Proficiencies for Learner-Centered Instruction adopted in 1997 by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). The domains are:

1. Active, Successful Student Participation in the Learning Process
2. Learner-centered Instruction
3. Evaluation and feedback on Student Progress
4. Management of Student Discipline, Instructional Strategies, Time/Materials
5. Professional Communication
6. Professional Development
7. Compliance with Policies, Operating Procedures and Requirements
8. Improvement of All Students' Academic Performance

Included in the appraisal system are Instructional Leadership Development (ILD) and Administrator Appraisal.

PDAS requires that new teachers and teachers new to a district receive an orientation. In addition, the PDAS Teacher Manual is to be given to ALL teachers

Understanding and Pursuing the Principalship:
This offering provides aspiring educators the opportunity to explore what it takes to become a campus administrator---from paths to certification, to interview preparation, and so much more. These three half-day sessions will focus on a variety of topics featuring panels of experts---current and retired administrators---who will share their expertise and answer questions regarding the role of the principal in today’s education.
