Regional Superintendent and Teachers of the Year to be Honored Oct. 29
Honorees represent Copperas Cove, Dawson, Hillsboro, Killeen & Lampasas ISDs.

WACO, Texas - Superintendent and Teachers of the Year, along with retiring superintendents will be honored by Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12 at a special awards ceremony at 6 p.m., Oct. 29, at 2101 W. Loop 340 in Waco.

The Region 12 Elementary Teacher of the Year (TOTY) is Sherrie Berry in Lampasas ISD and the Region 12 Secondary TOTY is Jennifer Faulknor in Hillsboro ISD. Superintendent of the Year (SOTY) is Dr. Robert Muller with Killeen ISD.

"We are so pleased to recognize these educators for their hard work and dedication to teaching students," ESC Region 12 Executive Director Dr. Jerry Maze said.

Berry has been teaching for 20 years, serving as a fourth-grade teacher for the last eight and as HOSTS (Help One Student to Succeed) teacher/coordinator for the previous eight years at Hanna Springs Elementary School. Prior to her positions in Lampasas ISD, Berry served as an elementary and Title I teacher for the third- and fourth-grade in Copperas Cove ISD.

Faulknor has been teaching for 13 years, all in Hillsboro ISD. She currently serves as science department head and teaches high school biology. In this leadership role, she is responsible for mentoring teachers, monitoring the budget, analyzing student data and supporting staff with the science curriculum. Prior to her current position, she taught eighth-grade science at Hillsboro Junior High for 12 years.

Muller began his career in Killeen ISD in 2003 as a deputy superintendent and was named superintendent in 2009. During Muller's time as superintendent, the district has improved its overall school rating from Academically Acceptable to Recognized, with much of the improvement due to initiatives started by Muller.

"Dr. Muller is truly a visionary whose commitment to leading and supporting staff and students is evident through the district's continuous improvement and success," Maze said.

ESC Region 12 will also recognize two administrators who have recently retired as superintendents in the region. The honorees are Dr. Rose Cameron (Copperas Cove ISD) and Arvel Rotan (Dawson ISD).

State Rep. Jimmie Don Aycock and his wife, Marie, are scheduled to attend the event.

More information about honorees is available at www.esc12.net.
