ESC REGION 12 NAMES DR. JERRY MAZE AS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
WACO, Texas – Jerry Maze, Ed.D., Associate Executive Director for Administrative Leadership and Business Services for Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12, has been named Executive Director for the center, which serves 77 school districts and 13 charter schools in 12 Central Texas counties. Dr. Maze will officially begin his new post May 1 and will succeed Tom Norris, Ed.D., who is retiring after 13 years.
Maze has served in education for more than 25 years, with the last three at ESC Region 12. While at the center, he has overseen the areas of field services, school finance, product development, campus leadership, regional satellite offices, school business services, and the Superintendents’ Leadership Academy, a program he began in 2009.
Maze’s school leadership experience includes serving as superintendent of Hillsboro and Hubbard ISDs. His leadership in schools focused on student achievement and financial efficiency. While superintendent in Hubbard, Maze led the district through building and opening a new middle school and establishing a district/community scholarship foundation.
“I am proud to have worked with school boards and educators in two Region 12 school districts where significant gains in student achievement and financial efficiency were achieved. Broad-based community support made the difference then and now for students,” Maze said.
"The past three years here at ESC Region 12 have been an excellent opportunity to extend my work on behalf of our 77 school districts and 13 charter schools. I am truly excited and honored that the Board of Trustees and the Commissioner of Education have chosen me to continue our fine tradition of quality service to the school districts in this region. Dr. Norris’ leadership has made ESC Region 12 a brand name for what service centers can do to serve schools and students. I look forward to carrying on ESC Region 12’s fine tradition of serving students by providing high-quality, cost-effective services to the schools they attend,” Maze said.
“Dr. Maze is an excellent choice and an exceptional educator. I have the utmost confidence in his leadership abilities to expand our services in a quality manner and in response to the needs of our students and educators,” Dr. Norris said. “I know I am leaving the center in good hands.”
Maze began his education career as an English teacher at Livingston Middle School, and later taught journalism, algebra and English at the high school level. He also served as principal, assistant principal and as associate principal for Curriculum & Instruction at Livingston High School. Maze later served as the Media/Public Relations Consultant and developed the district’s public relations program and bond communications. Maze also served as Director of Community and Academic Alternative Programs and led the development of district-wide academic supports for serving at-risk students, including acceleration, credit recovery and a school of choice. In this position, he also managed district communications, community programs and a multi-million dollar scholarship program.
Maze holds certifications in Secondary English and Journalism, Texas professional mid-management and Texas superintendent certification.
Maze graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Journalism from Texas A&M University, received his Master of Education from Sam Houston State University and his Doctorate of Education from Lamar University.
He is a member of the Waco Education Alliance Committee, the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) Advisory Committee, and serves on the Robinson Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He also serves as a superintendent mentor in conjunction with TASA and as adjunct faculty for Lamar University and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Maze was named Hillsboro Lions Club Citizen of the Year in 2006.
Maze is married to Pamela J. Maze, an elementary school teacher, and resides in Robinson. He has three children: Brandon, Daniel and Katie and one grandchild Roxie.
