ESC Region 12 to Host Independent Documentary on Feb. 26
Blue Nobody's Daughter film chronicles what one woman’s world became and what we all can achieve when we experience the right tools and support!
Blue Nobody’s Daughter chronicles Candi's Yarbrough’s amazing evolution over a three year period and explores the family dynamic that led to her institutionalization. Candi has been overcoming adversity, beating the odds, and proving the experts wrong all her life. This film allows the audience to experience the world from her perspective.
On February 26 at 6:30 p.m., the Waco Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities will bring Candi Yarbrough, the star of the film, and filmmaker Bill Sullivan to Waco for a special appearance at Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12 - 2101 W. Loop 340, Waco.

“My hope is to empower people with disabilities and their families, to help them find their voice and the supports which will move them into self-determination. I want to encourage people to have the freedom to live their lives the way they want to," said Yarbrough. "We are entitled to our own dreams and journeys. We want to have opportunities to meet new people and try new things, to pick and choose who we have in our lives and be surrounded by what is important to us in everyday life. We all have a right to be free!”
After the screening, there will be an audience Q&A with Peggy Cosner, executive director of the Heart of Central Texas Independence Living Center, assistive technology experts, and Haley Watkins, Advocacy, Inc., to discuss how people with severe disabilities can achieve their maximum potential when given the right tools and support. Professional CEU's are available.
The event is being sponsored by ESC Region 12, the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, the Waco Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities and the Recycle Mankind Project. The Waco Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities holds an annual movie screening to raise awareness for programs that help local people with disabilities obtain employment, housing, and full inclusion in our community.
Blue Nobody’s Daughter has been shown at many venues across the nation. For more information about the film and additional screening dates, visit http://bluenobodysdaughter.com.
