Train to be a Teacher Through ESC Region 12
Now Accepting Applications for Fall 2010

“Who dares to teach must never cease to learn.” (John Cotton Dana, 1799) Sherri Moe, recipient of the Teacher Promise Award from Austin ISD, exemplifies the quality of teachers who come out of the Teacher Preparation and Certification Program (TPCP) at Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12.

Moe will graduate from the TPCP program after completing her internship at Blackshear Elementary in Austin, where she teaches pre-kindergarten. While Moe nears the end of the program, she said seeing children grow and learn throughout the year makes everything worthwhile.

“I am motivated by knowing how influential I am in each one of my student’s lives,” Moe exclaimed. “I get to make an impact on the child both in and out of the classroom. It’s wonderful.” Moe attributes the TPCP and program coordinators at ESC Region 12 for effectively preparing her for the teaching field. “I’d give it (TPCP) an A-plus,” Moe exclaimed. “Everything I did in the program has made a huge impact in my classroom.” Sherri Moe is one of many to find their calling as a teacher through ESC Region 12, and you can too.

ESC Region 12 will be holding information sessions at 2101 W. Loop 340, Waco on:

  • Tuesday, June 8th at 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday, July 27th at 7 p.m.

The sessions will provide a brief overview of the alternative certification program, including the application and training process, followed by a question and answer forum. With two convenient locations in Nolanville and Waco, TPCP classes are scheduled to begin August 2010. The program is open to those with a bachelor’s degree and who are interested in obtaining a Texas teaching certificate - even without a degree in education. Additionally, individuals who have a degree in education, but do not have teaching certification in Texas, may obtain a valid certification through the program, expand their current certifications, or obtain preparation in other subject areas.

“Our team works hard year-round to ensure our participants receive high quality instruction they can apply in their teaching careers. Ultimately, we’re here to help teachers help children,” stated Wynn Rolf, director of TPCP at ESC Region 12.

Participants will attend three evening classes per week and two Saturday sessions during the pre-service phase. After completing four months of classes, participants may intern with school districts in the following school year and be eligible to receive pay as a first-year teacher. A $75 non-refundable application fee and interview is required to be considered to enter the program. Qualifications for each specialization area vary. Applications may be submitted in person to either the Nolanville or the Waco offices.
