The Junior League of Waco and ESC Region 12 Hosts Fifth Annual Teen Suicide Prevention Symposium

WACO, TX – The Junior League of Waco, Inc., and Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12 are hosting the fifth annual Teen Suicide Prevention Symposium (TSPS) at ESC Region 12, 2101 W. Loop 340, on Thursday, Feb. 4, from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. The symposium’s focus is Rachel’s Challenge – Start a Chain Reaction.

Rachel Scott, 17-year-old Columbine student, was one of 13 people killed in the tragic school shooting in Littleton, Colo., on April 20, 1999. Since then, Rachel’s Challenge has impacted millions of people around the world. Attendees will be inspired and empowered by Darrell Scott, Rachel’s father, who made a commitment 10 years ago to not let his daughter’s life be in vain. Scott will equip attendees with techniques to create a safe environment, engage the whole child, and provide social and emotional education that is both color-blind and culturally relevant. Discover strategies that will cause your students to become “Value and Purpose Driven.”

The TSPS was adopted as a project of the Junior League of Waco in 2005, in partnership with Baylor University and The American Football Coaches Association. It serves the community by providing education and information about suicide prevention and education to individuals, organizations and agencies that work with today's youth.

Nurses may earn seven Type I CNEs. Counselors, social workers, educators and psychologists will also earn seven LPC/SW/CEU credits through McLennan Community College and ESC Region 12.
