WACO, Texas – Jane wants to be a paramedic. Billy wants to be a fireman. What did you want to be when you grew up? More than 1,600 children will receive a hands-on opportunity to explore their dream careers at Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12’s Career on Wheels (C.O.W.) Day. This event is a fun, interactive experience for young students to feel, touch and learn about various careers involving motor vehicles. C.O.W. Day will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 30, at ESC Region 12 - 2101 W. Loop 340, Waco.
From blaring horns to buzzing sirens, the ESC Region 12 parking lot will be filled with an array of vehicles showcasing multiple careers. Operators will give demonstrations and explain what training and/or education they received. Some attractions include a bucket truck, fire engine, mobile crime lab, helicopter and Army Humvee.
“This is a unique learning experience that will introduce Central Texas students to many different vehicle-related careers,” said Chris Holecek, education specialist for ESC Region 12. “Modeling and demonstrating careers provide excellent and memorable examples for young boys and girls, and we want to encourage them that they can be anything they want to be!”
Pre-kindergarten through third grade students from the following school districts will attend: Axtell, Bosqueville, Bynum, Cedar Ridge, Foster, Jonesboro, Malone, Midway, Penelope, Riesel and Waco (Brooke Avenue Elementary and Crestview Elementary). This event is open to pre-registered schools only.
