Need a Change? Become a Teacher, Principal with ESC Region 12
Applicant Information Sessions Being Held Beginning in June
WACO, Texas – Due to an influx of calls and onsite inquires, Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12 will offer a series of informational sessions for individuals interested in its alternative teacher and principal certification programs. Sessions will be held in June and July (see below) at ESC Region 12 at 2101 W. Loop 340 (Bagby Ave. and Hwy. 6).
The hour-long sessions will provide an overview of both the Teacher Preparation and Certification Program (TPCP) and Principal Preparation and Certification Program (PPCP). Topics include the application process, training cycle and fees, followed by time for questions and answers.
Those interested in becoming a teacher must have a bachelor’s degree or be within six months of earning a degree. Additionally, individuals who have a degree in education, but do not have teaching certification in Texas, may obtain a valid certification through the program, expand their current certifications, or obtain preparation in other subject areas. This program consists of four months of evening classes (three per week) and a year-long classroom internship. Attendees are welcome to bring their transcripts for review and alignment with subject areas following the session.
Teachers and/or other educators interested in becoming a school principal must have two years of classroom teaching experience, a master’s degree and a GPA of 3.0 or higher on graduate level coursework. The one-year principal program consists of pre-service classes, on-the-job work experience, and an internship.
TPCP and PPCP provide hands-on, quality training taught by master practitioners with ongoing mentor support. Both programs are fully accredited by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) in Texas, and hold a high first-time test taker pass rate among participants.
