Nominations Open for 2008 TASA
Outstanding School Board
If you are proud of your board
and the work it does on behalf of the children
in your district, let everyone know! Nominations
are now open for the 2008 TASA Outstanding School
Board! TASA created the School Board Awards Program
in 1971 to recognize school boards whose dedication
and ethical service have made a positive impact
on the children of Texas. This is an excellent
opportunity to reward your hard-working, dedicated
board members with the recognition they deserve.
The awards program allows each regional selection
committee to submit up to two nominations for state
competition, one from districts with less than 1,000
students and one from districts with more than 1,000
students. The criteria emphasize evidence of support
for educational performance improvement. If selected
to represent your region, your board will be in the
running to be named a 2008 Texas Honor Board, one
of which is chosen as Texas’ Outstanding School Board.
All regional and honor boards are recognized at the
TASA/TASB Convention in September—the biggest gathering
of educational leaders in the state!
Any Texas superintendent of schools who is a member
of TASA and who has served in his/her current position
at least since July 1, 2006, (other than the TASA
president at the time the awards will be made), may
nominate his/her board of trustees. School boards
nominated for the awards program must have served
during the school year immediately preceding the
awards program. For 2008, only those school boards
serving during the 2007-2008 school year are eligible
to be nominated. Full
