Region 12 to Bring National Speakers, Authors to Area Educators
Distinguished Gifted & Talented
Speaker Series Begins March 26
Waco, Texas – The Education Service Center
(ESC) Region 12 is pleased to present a Gifted and Talented
(G/T) Distinguished Speakers Series to Central Texas educators.
The series kicks off Wednesday, March 26 with
Carolyn Coil. Coil is an internationally known speaker, author,
trainer, consultant and educator. Her presentation will focus
on meeting the needs of gifted students in a regular classroom
setting.
The next session will feature Cecelia Boswell,
Ed.D. on July 9. Boswell is currently president-elect for
the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented. Her presentation
will show ways to extend student thinking and increase achievement
levels. The session will illustrate how to address student
interest through authentic learning that will add relevance,
rigor, depth, and complexity to their learning.
Next up, Suzy Red, a popular author will present
two sessions on July 23-24. She will present her award-winning
literature that leads students into an active, integrated
curriculum that is rich in character, reading and math skills,
science, social studies, research, problem solving and internet
projects.
The series will wrap up with a presentation
by Bertie Kingore, Ph.D. on Aug. 6. Dr. Kingore will examine
practical research-based strategies to vary lessons to meet
the needs of all learners. Participants will explore guidelines
to effectively manage the learning environment to meet the
needs of students with different learning requirements, including
the gifted child. Kingore is a national consultant and the
author of numerous articles, instructional aids, and 20 books
on education.
All sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 4
p.m. at ESC Region 12 in Waco. Sessions are offered at a
discounted fee to G/T Co-op members. Each session counts
as a 6 hour G/T update. Online registration is available
for each session!
