Special Conference to Focus on Response to Intervention
(RTI)
National Education Consultant Dr. John McCook
will kick off the April 5th Conference
Response to Intervention (RTI) is the
focus of the first Region 12 “Symposium on
the Square,” an education conference that will
be held April 5 at the Waco Convention Center. Federal
legislation requires that all schools provide all
students an integrated teaching approach that encompasses
scientifically research-based strategies that will
assist schools in assessing the needs of struggling
students and monitoring progress. The one-day conference
will provide schools with practical information on
creating and implementing an RTI model, as well as
balancing a strong intervention program with federal
legal requirements.
“This conference is the first
of its kind for this area and we’re proud to
bring it to Central Texas educators,” said
Sharon Fredriksson, director of special education
services for Education Service Center (ESC) Region
12. “Furthermore, it is a great opportunity
to see and hear nationally recognized speakers here ‘at
home’,” she continued.
Dr. John McCook, the keynote speaker
lectures nationally on implementing district-wide
RTI models. All conference speakers have been recognized
for their expertise in the fields of research, law,
implementation and resource allocation to make the
model successful in the real world. Breakout sessions
have been designed to appeal to superintendents,
principals, teachers, curriculum directors, counselors,
special education personnel, speech pathologists,
related service providers, instructional facilitators,
or anyone who helps educate children. To learn more
