Response to Intervention Education Conference Scheduled for July 31 in Waco

WACO, TEXAS—The Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12 and the Heart of Texas Council of Special Education Administrators (HOTCASE) are pleased to announce that a Response to Intervention (RTI) Conference will be held July 31 at the Waco Convention Center. Dr. Jack Fletcher, Professor of Psychology at the University of Houston will be the keynote speaker for this special conference. Fletcher, a child neuropsychologist has completed research on many aspects of the development of reading, language and other cognitive skills in children.

This education conference will focus on RTI, an initiative from federal legislation that requires schools to provide all students with an integrated teaching approach that encompasses scientifically research-based strategies. These strategies must assess the needs of struggling students and monitor their progress.

The one-day conference will include presentations on three-tier mathematics and assessment models, lessons learned after implementing an RTI model, providing supplemental services to students, how RTI fits into the accountability process, a best practice called Preschool Articulation and Language Services (PALS). Session presenters include individuals from the University of Texas, Baylor University, ESC Region 12 and several school districts in Texas.

“We are pleased to collaborate with HOTCASE for this conference as RTI is such an important topic for educators right now,” said Sharon Fredriksson, director of special education services for ESC Region 12.

Conference registration is $99 per person and the deadline to register is July 13. More information about Response to Intervention is available at www.esc12.net/rti.
