Response to Intervention Education
Conference Scheduled for July 31 in Waco |
WACO, TEXAS—The Education Service
Center (ESC) Region 12 and the Heart of Texas Council
of Special Education Administrators (HOTCASE) are
pleased to announce that a Response to Intervention
(RTI) Conference will be held July 31 at the Waco
Convention Center. Dr. Jack Fletcher, Professor of
Psychology at the University of Houston will be the
keynote speaker for this special conference. Fletcher,
a child neuropsychologist has completed research
on many aspects of the development of reading, language
and other cognitive skills in children.
This education conference will focus
on RTI, an initiative from federal legislation that
requires schools to provide all students with an
integrated teaching approach that encompasses scientifically
research-based strategies. These strategies must
assess the needs of struggling students and monitor
their progress.
The one-day conference will include
presentations on three-tier mathematics and assessment
models, lessons learned after implementing an RTI
model, providing supplemental services to students,
how RTI fits into the accountability process, a best
practice called Preschool Articulation and Language
Services (PALS). Session presenters include individuals
from the University of Texas, Baylor University,
ESC Region 12 and several school districts in Texas.
“We are pleased to collaborate
with HOTCASE for this conference as RTI is such an
important topic for educators right now,” said
Sharon Fredriksson, director of special education
services for ESC Region 12.
Conference registration is $99 per
person and the deadline to register is July 13.

Conference participants will need to
register
for the event with Session #26566. An afternoon
breakout session will be available in a first-come,
first serve basis and must be chosen during the registration
process.
