Unlawful
Harassment of Students Conference Set for September 11-12,
2007
The U.S. Department of Education,
Office for Civil Rights (OCR), Dallas office, the U.S. Department
of Education funded IDRA South Central Collaborative for Equity,
and the Education Service Centers (Region 10, Region 11, and
Region 12) cordially invite you to participate in a conference
entitled Unlawful Harassment of Students in Education Programs
and Activities. The two-day conference will be held at the
Adam’s Mark Hotel in Dallas, Texas, on September 11-12,
2007.
Harassment, whether based on race, color, national
origin, disability or sex, is a recurring issue that has the
potential for excluding students from participating in or benefiting
from the programs and activities operated by school districts.
The purpose of the conference is to share information on harassment
and its effect on the learning environment.
Our objective for
participants is to learn more about what constitutes harassment,
the different regulatory authorities that prohibit harassment,
and to get ideas and information about how to develop preventative
programs and respond effectively to incidents of harassment
whenever it occurs. This conference is highly recommended for
school board members, superintendents and other central office
leaders, principals, school resource officers, Title IX and
504 coordinators, teachers and counselors.
The Education Service
Centers are encouraging K-12 educators to attend this important
conference. To this end, educators attending this two-day conference
will receive 12.0 hours of Professional Development Training
credits.
