Region 12 Educators Participate in National Collaboration
Teachers from Hillsboro and Gatesville to present K-12 Videoconference Best Practices

Pam Hamilton, 6th grade teacher from Hillsboro ISD and Kim Pearce, 6th grade teacher from Gatesville ISD will present “Teacher Testimonials: Best Practice in Action” at this year’s JAZZ Project summer training during the week of July 31-August 4. Pam and Kim created a project called “Greek Gods and Goddesses” that they will share with this year’s JAZZ Project participants. They also have participated in the Bluebonnet Conference and Christmas Around the World projects which are coordinated through ESC Region 12.

“JAZZing Up Your Curriculum with Videoconferencing” is a collaborative project which is taught by the leaders in the field of K-12 Videoconferencing. ESC Region 12 will partner with El Paso, Mt. Pleasant, Rosenberg, Temple as well as sites in St. Louis, Mo., Berrien Springs, Mich., and New York City, N.Y. Teachers from Killeen, Groesbeck, Temple, Gatesville, Moody, and Star will participate in this innovative technology immersion training ESC Region 12. Roxanne Glaser, Distance Learning Specialist for ESC Region 12, will facilitate the ESC Region 12 site.

Videoconference (VC) connections between classes open up a whole new world of collaborative learning for students. Teachers will learn how to create a curriculum-based project and find a partner to connect with to increase student interest and achievement. During this weeklong event, teachers will also learn about and use other multimedia and emerging technologies such as Moodle, Inspiration, Blogging, Wikis, PowerPoint and more.

Each day of training will include a simulated student event, sample projects, guest speakers and small group work time. Teachers will work in small groups with others via videoconference, chat and online forums. On Tuesday, Pam and Kim will present how teachers can use collaborative projects to enhance and enrich curriculum.
