The
Texas Education Agency is operating a toll-free hotline
to assist parents and educators
meet the needs of students evacuated from Louisiana, Mississippi
and Alabama due to Hurricane Katrina. The toll-free
hotline number is is 1-800-957-5109. The
800 number will be in operation Monday through Friday
from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Additionally, the Texas Education Agency
has established a special webpage with Frequently Asked
Questions documents for parents
and educators. The webpage includes
email addresses for retired Texas teachers who are interested
in helping with teaching needs, and individuals inquiring about
donating school supplies. Those who wish to donate school
supplies to the evacuees may email information to schoolsupplies@tea.state.tx.us. Links

On Tuesday, September 6th, Commissioner
Neeley will release a toll-free number for Louisiana
teachers who are seeking employment in Texas schools. This toll-free number
will also be manned from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday
through Friday beginning Tuesday, September 6th. This
information will be posted on the TEA website.
