Transition Fair to Assist
Students with Disabilities
WACO, TEXAS— Transition for students with disabilities
can be a challenging endeavor, especially when planning
for a future after high school. In order to help these
students plan for the “real world”, the
Education Service Center Region 12 will sponsor the
3rd Annual Transition Fair from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.,
Saturday, Oct. 16 at the ESC Region 12, 2101 W. Loop
340 in Waco.
This event will provide students, parents, and educators
with the opportunity to explore some of life’s
post secondary options for young adults with special
needs. Desirable out-of-school plans may include the
transition from school to work or on the job training,
post secondary education, or armed forces.
“Students with disabilities do not traditionally
have access to the community resources available,”
said Renee Sadler, ESC Region 12 transition specialist.
“This unique event will provide a one-stop source
of speakers, programs and organizations ready to guide
students and their parents through transition.”
Representatives from regional community colleges
and various agencies and organizations are scheduled
to speak at the fair. Lunch will be provided at no
cost and door prizes will be given away. The fair
is free and open to the public; however, pre-registration
is preferred. To register for the event, please call
254/297-1160 or visit www.esc12.net/announcements.
To request signing, Spanish interpreter services,
or other accommodations, contact Belen Castaneda at
254/297-1147 or bcastaneda@esc12.net by Oct. 1.
