BOARD CANDIDATE WORKSHOP OFFERS INFORMATION AND INSIGHT
WACO, TEXAS-- Area school board candidates and
interested citizens can learn more about the demands and rewards
of school board service at a candidate workshop from 7 p.m.
to 9 p.m. on Thursday, February 19 at the Education Service
Center (ESC) Region 12 at 2101 W. Loop 340, in Waco.
The workshop, co-sponsored by ESC Region 12
and the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), will provide
interested community members a better understanding of what
is involved in being elected and serving as a local trustee
in a school board position. Experienced school board members
will explain board members’ key responsibilities of
board members and outline the qualities necessary for effective
service.
Topics will include ‘What it’s
like to be a trustee’, ‘Key responsibilities of
the board’, ‘Division of authority with staff’,
‘How to campaign constructively’, and ‘Where
to find more information0. Participants will also view A Call
to Service, a TASB video highlighting many aspects of board
service and featuring several experienced school trustees.
The workshop is open to anyone and admission

Service Center (ESC) Region 12 assists 78 independent school
districts and eleven charter schools in attaining the Texas
Education Agency’s goals and objectives. Based in Waco,

Bell, Bosque, Coryell, Falls, Freestone, Hamilton, Hill, Lampasas,
